  • How can I apply or renew my USCF license?
You can get a new license or renew an existing license on-line at www.usacycling.org  You will first need to register an account.  Once registered, you simply click on the "Buy/Renew License" button.  It is a simple process that will take just a few minutes.

  • I have not raced in a few years.  Can I get my old category back or must I start as a Cat 5?
It depends on how long your license has been expired.  Generally, when you renew an expired license, your racing categories will be preserved.  If your license comes back as a Cat 5, you can process an on-line request for an upgrade.  In the comments field, simply explain why you are requesting the upgrade.  If you were a Cat 2, but would feel more comfortable starting back as a Cat 3, you can also note that on your request.  Usually it is the rider's decision to select what category they come back as.

  • How can I request an upgrade?
You can request an upgrade on-line at www.usacycling.org.  You will first need to register an account.  Once registered, you simply click on the "Rider's Resources" button and then on "Request an Upgrade".  It is a simple process that will take just a few minutes.  You select the category you are requesting and fill in a resume that documents your points over the past 12 months.  The request will be forwarded to the SCNCA.  Decisions are made the same day.  You will have an option to have your license re-issued for $15 or a sticker will be sent to you.

  • How can I change the club on my license?
Send all club change requests to redbike@earthlink.net
    .

  • Where can I find things like race schedules, race flyers, and race results?
The SCNCA website is the only place to find the official race flyers, race results, and SoCal Cup standings.  The Chief Referees will use the flyer from our website to run the race. .

  • How many races or points do I need for an upgrade?
You can find a complete list of upgrade requirements at http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=580.

  • I am a Master.  Can I still qualify for an upgrade?
Typically, Masters have not had the opportunity to upgrade.  We will consider upgrades for Masters on a case-by-case basis.  Go on-line and complete the upgrade request section as described above.  Your race resume must show results from a minimum of three elite races.  For example, if you are requesting an upgrade from a Cat 3 to a Cat 2, you must show results from at least three Cat 3 races.

  • What is an automatic upgrade?
The USCF upgrade guidelines mandate automatic upgrades for Cat 4s, 3s, and 2s who have accumulated enough points that warrant an automatic upgrade to the next category. Points earned from CBR races will not count towards the mandatory point level that warrants the automatic upgrade.

  • Who is CBR?
California Bicycle Racing (CBR) is an independent cycling organization (and USCF club).  Their races are not held under a USCF permit.  Since CBR has the same upgrade policy as USCF, there is an agreement that USCF riders can use CBR points towards a USCF upgrade.  The same holds true for CBR license holders.  CBR license holders will need a USCF license (either annual or a one-day) to do a USCF event.  CBR and the SCNCA share upgrade information.  A person who has been upgraded by CBR should expect to have their USCF license upgraded to the same category as their CBR category.  Rider suspensions are also honored.

  • Where can I find training races during the week?
There are a variety of training races during the week throughout the greater LA area.  The most prominent races are on Tuesday evenings at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and Telo Ave. in Torrance.

  • Can I race for more than one club?
Yes.  It is a little complicated so let's go to the USCF rulebook
    "
Sponsored teams consisting of riders who are members of different clubs may be organized by an affiliated club to compete either in a single event or in events throughout the calendar year. The club of which each rider is a member must provide written approval before its members may participate and may, in exchange for the permission, receive a fee from the team sponsor to support development of club riders. All members of the sponsored team must compete in identical uniforms either of the organizing club or of a new sponsorship design." Also, you can get a letter from your original club (whose name is on your license) releasing you to ride for another club.  In this case, you will need to ride in different categories.  If you race as an Elite for your original club, you can race Masters for the second club.  You cannot ride the same category for both clubs
